Parks and gardens

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has some 2,000 castles, manor houses and mansion houses. Together with their gardens they represent a unique cultural heritage, which has to be maintained and developed so that the population and visitors can continue to enjoy it with all their senses. The garden ensembles lie embedded in the delightful terminal-moraine landscape, waiting for you to discover and enjoy them in this way. In recent years they have become a veritable magnet for visitors, for they reflect special aspects of a historical regional identity. Today, as in the past, they are places of peace and tranquillity that invite you to linger and dream for a while, idyllic places in which time seems to stand still.

Discover familiar and unfamiliar treasures and garner an astonishing variety of garden impressions from lovingly restored castle gardens to herb gardens, from fragrant rose gardens, luxuriant country gardens and the artistic garden installations to the impressive landscape parks around the country estates of the Mecklenburg Lake District.
The various sites are not only wonderful to look at; they also give a fascinating insight into gardening and historical traditions. They are often an integral part of historic castle or manor-house ensembles and are to be enjoyed as unique cultural artefacts. Everywhere, guided garden tours are on offer that clearly explain the background of design and the natural and cultural heritage, sometimes coupled with an introduction to ecological guidelines and the production of healthy foodstuffs.
Among the sites that are especially worth a visit are, for example, the castle parks of Schwerin, Guestrow, Neustrelitz and Hohenzieritz, the Lenné-Park in Krumbeck, the English Garden in Malchow and the Dendrological Garden in Bluecherhof.
